COVID 19 and it's effects

Newar Analysis : COVID19 and its effects

  • Advent of 1st January,2020, who would have thought the folks were celebrating their celibacy with fireworks. With all the pagans, monotheists and agnostics hoping to envelope a blissful twelve months, their faiths to have shattered by a micro living thing crafting a macro hazard dettering to haunt humanity. The COVID 19 or the Coronavirus Disease 2019 kicked off as an epidemic and transitioned to pandemic by just a fraction of time, all thanks to globalisation. The disease spreads human to human through mouth, nose or eyes and attacks the respiratory system. It came to limelight in the Wuhan Province of China where people developed pneumonia like symptoms and is said to have spread through the consumption of wild animals and sea foods which pretty much is a predominant diet in mainland China clustering a billion people. Back in November , 2019 large number of people got infected and began dying and slowly the news about this new disease flooded the journals and headlines. The novel virus got a global attention when the first person outside China got infected and died days later. The virus spread in Iran and killed and infected many people including the Health Minister of Iran being the most prominent one. Soon, Italy began reporting massive deaths and infections spread world wide. Following large deaths and infections, the World Health Organisation ( WHO) only then declared the situation a pandemic drawing global attention and seeking lockdown world wide. The WHO was heavily criticised for its late call and alarm featuring its  China bias and  the resignation of its Chairman is also on demand. The disease so far has claimed 50,000 lives with Italy being the worst hit closely followed by Spain, US, Iran and China. The Asia Pacific and South East nations like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and to some extent the China itself has became success models for their strategies in containing the virus transmission. With an ever improving scientific and technical know how, an effective vaccine for building immunity against the virus is still 12-18 months away indicatong more deaths, infections and lockdown. These changes are prominently affecting the demand supply chain and ruining the economy. The fears of a possible global recession is haunting the experts. Besides economy, mental health will also be affected adversely. People suffering from depression, anxiety, loneliness, addiction are going to have a very hard time in self quarantine and social distancing. Amidst losses the only sectors to administer profits and growth are the pharmaceuticals and telecom sector. People being health conscious more than ever rush to drug stores and people addressing boredom scroll the internet repeatedly. Manufacturing and transportation stoppage has benefitted the environmental sphere. Reports suggest that the Ozone layer is healing itself and the areas which usually remains dirty due to tourism and cultural activities became cleaner. NASA images also reveals drop in the air pollution levels. Social effects of home quarantine is very wide but the thing which have caught the spotlight is increasing domestic violence.

If I ever meet her

If I ever meet her The girl sitting right next to me, beautiful she is with her eyes in glee. Embedding on her face a blissful smile, innocent she looked one hundred percentile. Her voice echoed and my heart melted, holding her hand was what I wanted. A simple text fixed the compound task, Ok! the date was set and my stress in bask. Wearing the suit my father's best, what this Newar did entails the rest. Candle light a fantasy and dance in vain, endogamy for this Newar was only the gain. Tea ignited talks and coffee cultivated charms, watching her sip tipped my cold eyes warm. Her playful eyes hit all the sixers, tricking my brain to doubt the pictures. Then her soft hands holded my bruised wrist, thrilled you are? Haha...wait for the twist. I was joyful at the scene, the beauty came closer and held her eyes pristine. Moved I ahead but felt something strange, holding a pillow w...

A Diary from Cotton University

A Diary from Cotton University  The Cotton journey started on a rather strange winter with mask engulfed humans crawling their way to a new horizon of the unknown. The uncountable number of whatsapp groups and messages from unknown accounts flooding the chat box with greetings all over was sufficient to make any hard geek feel special. Slowly and firmly, over days and  nights, over notes and introductions, some bonds started to feel like home, and would rather like to put it as "new homies". The dry december surfed its way out to a bloomy spring. However, the continuity was whipped off to a halt, when the 2nd wave of COVID smashed our maiden semester exams. Over protests of exams being offline and the numerous procrastination driven online scrolls, the exam preparation lay low. Finally, the examinations were walled down and extended to the later online module only when the preventable virus infected the faculty and students indiscriminately. The following months passed i...
